Late news :Group snaps up stake in EMC

EMC has a new group of investors - including property developer Chanachai Leenabanchong and Chayut Leeissaranukul - which now controls a 20-per-cent stake in the property and construction firm.

Managing director Komol Wongpornpenpap, said Chanachai was appointed a director last Friday. A board meeting that day also approved the appointment of three other directors: Kennosuke Ochiai, Paiboon Thongra-ar and Pisanu Kerdlappol. The appointments will need to be approved at a May 11 shareholders' meeting.

Steel profits rise

Sahaviriya Steel Industry posted a first-quarter net profit of Bt111.3 million, up 142 per cent year on year.

President Win Viriyapraphaikit attributed the increase to a focus on high-quality steel sheets, which contributed 61 per cent of total revenues. The high-quality steel sheets also raised the company's gross margin and pushed revenues to Bt7.5 billion in the quarter, during which interest expenses also dropped.

New GMM CEO

GMM Media has appointed Saithip Montrikul na Audhaya as CEO, effective yesterday.

She replaces Paiboon Damrongchaitham, who will retain the position of chairman.
