Support for govt still sliding, poll finds

Support for the Surayud Chulanont government declined again this month although a majority still supports it, a poll conducted last week found.
Abac Poll Research Centre said that 55.4 per cent of the 2,700 people it surveyed believed the government should still be given the chance to solve national problems, while 20.7 per cent said it should not.In December 75.7 per cent of those surveyed supported the government, Abac Poll director Noppadon Kannika said. The April survey found 71.1 per cent of respondents believed anti-government protests were inappropriate while 28.9 per cent approved of them. In December just 15 per cent of respondents supported anti-government groups, Noppadon said. When asked to select the model of an honest prime minister, 19.6 per cent of those surveyed named Surayud, 14.7 per cent named General Prem Tinsulanonda, 12 per cent named Chuan Leekpai, 6.4 per cent said Anand Panyarachun and 4.9 per cent said Thaksin Shinawatra. The top response, however, was that no premier fit the bill. The poll was conducted in Bangkok and surrounding provinces from Wednesday to Saturday.
