HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
CNS to examine rallies

Today's Council for National Security meeting will consider national security amid anti-government and anti-coup rallies.
CDA to discuss charter issues Tomorrow and Wednesday, the Constitution Drafting Assembly meet the Constitution Drafting Committee to discuss controversial charter issues. Issues widely criticised include a proposal for an appointed Senate, a special "political deadlock" committee and the recognition of Buddhism as the national religion.
Pojaman land decision today An Assets Examination Committee (AEC) panel investigating the purchase at auction of Ratchadaphisek land by Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra decides today if it will recommend the indictment of her and others. If charges are recommended to the Attorney General it will be the second prosecution proposed by the AEC against those connected with the overthrown government of Thaksin Shinawatra. Pojaman's bid was the highest at a Financial Institutions Development Fund auction. The fund is under the control of the Bank of Thailand. AEC member Udom Fuangfung believed the panel had a solid case against Thaksin and Pojaman for violating the National Counter Corruption Act. The panel might also indict Thaksin.
Illegal workers' rights in focus Non-government organisations will today complain to the International Labour Organisation, National Human Rights Commission and the Lawyers Council of Thailand about alleged oppressive treatment of migrant workers. The NGOs claim regulations issued by provinces, including Phuket, prohibit migrants workers from using mobile phones, gathering in groups of five or more and impose illegal curfews. Tomorrow is May Day, or International Workers' Day. Migrant labourers are expected to lobby the government for improved employment conditions.
