IN BRIEF
Petrochem project not delayed: Iran

Iran's Ambassador to Thailand Mohsen Pak-Ayeen has denied reports about a delay in the Mehr petrochemical project, which is being constructed with the participation of Thailand and Japan.
The Islamic Republic News Agency quoted Pak-Ayeen as saying that construction of the project is under way in Assalouyeh and that no problems have occurred. PTT Chemical, which holds a 10-per-cent stake in the petrochemical project, said earlier that it would be delayed by six months. However the Iranian envoy said the Thai and Japanese engineers working on the project were regularly getting visas from Iran's embassy in Bangkok. This, he added, indicated that they were actively at work on the project. Pak-Ayeen said Iran's petrochemical officials had also confirmed that the project was going ahead.
