PTT opens third natural gas line

PTT has recently started the operation of a third pipeline to supply natural gas mainly to power plants and industrial plants switching from bunker oil.
PTT senior executive vice president Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith said yesterday that in the initial period, 50-250 million cubic feet a day would be transmitted from the Erawan Field through the Rayong-Bang Pakong pipeline. The volume will be increased to 700 million cubic feet in 2008 when the pipeline from the Arthit Field and the Joint Development Area is completed. The maximum volume will be 1,900 million cubic feet when a compressor is installed on the riser platform in 2010. At this the daily transmission rate, natural gas can replace 48 million litres of bunker oil. "The third pipeline will increase PTT's capacity in supplying natural gas from the East to power plants and industrial plants to replace bunker oil consumption," Chitrapongse said. "It will also increase our capacity in transporting gas from the Gulf of Thailand for the power, industrial and transportation sectors. This will increase energy security, benefit the environment and reduce bunker oil imports." The Nation
