Sangthong TV School changes to IT centre

Sangthong Television School, one of the country's oldest specialist mechanical schools, will undertake a rebranding strategy to expand its student base and achieve its revenue target of Bt50 million this year.

Since its establishment 30 years ago, this is the first time it has drawn up a marketing strategy to promote information technology.

The school also plans to change its name to Sangthong Tech or Sangthong Technology in the near future.

Its administration will soon reach a final decision about the new name.

Sangthong wants to change its image from a school for TV and radio mechanical repairs to one that provides integrated IT knowledge for students, said president Sonchai Ungsamat-takosa.

The school concentrates not only on education but also on practical electrical repairs.

Revenue reaches an average of Bt22 million to Bt25 million a year, of which Bt20 million comes from school administration and the remainder from the repair business.

An average of 1,500 to 2,000 students graduate each year, while it has produced 60,000 graduates over three decades.

The school manages three branches in Bangkok at Petchakasem, Lad Prao and Dao Khanong.

To promote the school's new image, a marketing strategy has been launched focusing

on below-the-line activities, including discount prices for special curriculum and training programmes to create new types of technicians.

Sonchai added that the school had joined hands with government agencies such as the Industrial Promotion Department to set up a special curriculum in such areas as electronics, industrial electricity, basic micro-computer maintenance and computer networks, aimed at increasing the number of expert technicians.

He said the school would spend Bt10 million for all marketing strategies and rebranding this year.
