The Criminal Court has set May 8 for a second mediation session for a libel case involving anti-Thaksin campaigner Sondhi Limthongkul, who was close to reaching a settlement yesterday.
Naval adviser Vice Admiral Kiatisak Damapong says Sondhi defamed his family after attacking the Shinawatra-Damapong families over the Shin Corp sale last year. Ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra's family and his Damapong in-laws sold their controlling stake in the telecom giant to Singapore's Temasek Holding. Kiatisak contends that Sondhi's remarks had tarnished his family's reputation, and blocked his career from advancing. In yesterday's mediation, Sondhi admitted making the remarks but defended himself as being critical of Thaksin and not intending to target Kiatisak. He said he was willing to issue an apology if the plaintiff would drop the charges. Kiatisak asked for time to "review his options" before deciding whether to settle the case.
