Forced purchases :Tour guide faces prosecution

The Tourism Ministry will prosecute a guide for forcing visitors from China to purchase optional tours and unauthorised use of the Tourism Authority of Thailand logo.

Veerakorn Chengcherakul of Nan Chiang Trading faces up to seven years in jail and a Bt14,000 maximum fine.

Tourism Minister Suvit Yodmani said the action followed complaints by 13 Chinese tourists. The ministry vowed to protect tourists from crocked guides. Chinese tourists are reportedly the most-often targeted by the fraud known as zero-dollar tours.
