In brief :TOT managers under fire

A member of TOT's board last week said that the state agency's management had failed to meet its work target due to "lack of aggressiveness and inefficiency".
The remark came shortly before the board is to conduct its quarterly performance evaluation of TOT president Somkual Buraminhentr, who assumed the post on January 11. The board also appointed Admiral Bannawit Kengrien as its adviser "to improve TOT's competitiveness from legal perspectives". Bannawit is also chairman of the transport committee of the National Legislative Assembly.
Family Home Mart chain The Peak group of companies from Malaysia plans to start a series of chain stores in Southeast Asia to market its range of European-design bathroom furniture and fit-tings under the Suncoo brand. The Penang-based company, which has two manufacturing plants - in Prai and in China - is in discussions with agents in Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, the Bernama national news agency cited Peak managing director KT Loo as saying from Guangzhou, China. "We will make Malaysia the logistics hub to export products to all 10 Asean countries and retail them under our chain store called Family Home Mart to take advantage of duty-free breaks in the Asean Free Trade Area," Loo said. He expects the first Family Home Mart stores outside Malaysia to be launched in Singapore and Thailand this year.
