Water park for Phuket

Central and City Developments has announced it will build Phuket's first water park as part of its Bt6-billion West Sands Resort.
The Bt150-million park will cover 6,400 square metres and feature state-of-the-art water rides, all to be designed and built by Canadian specialist WhiteWater through its office in South Korea. West Sands sales and marketing director Barry King said there were no plans to open the water park to the general public but that local residents would be allowed access on special occasions. The park should be open in June 2008, he said. The announcement comes following the launch of a provincial investigation into claims by residents that part of the West Sands project is on public land. Investigation committee member Techin Techawong, administrative officer at the Damrongtham Centre provincial complaint centre, said the committee planned to inspect the site again after Songkran. Together with representatives of the Mai Khao Tambon Administration Organisation and the Phuket Provincial Land Office, the committee will do additional survey work at the site to ensure construction work concurs with land deeds and construction permits presented as evidence by the developer. Techin said, however, that all the title deeds and construction permits appeared to be in order. Phuket Gazette
