Late news :Krirk-kiat gets 20 years in jail

Krirk-kiat Jalichandra, former president of the now-defunct Bangkok Bank of Commerce, was sentenced to 20 years in jail, fined Bt1.16 billion and required to pay part of Bt598 million in compensation to the bank.
The Criminal Court yesterday found Krirk-kiat and two accomplices guilty of embezzling Bt1.23 billion from the bank through a transaction between the bank and Development Finance and Investment. Earlier, Krirk-kiat was sentenced to 70 years for five felonies. He is appealing the verdict.
CAT cable plan CAT Telecom's board approved a plan to join with state telecom agencies in eight other countries plus Hong Kong in a submarine fibre-optic construction project. Each country will contribute Bt1.98 billion to hire ASN-NEC to lay the submarine network linking Southeast Asia with the US, to provide broadband Internet service. CAT will ask for Cabinet approval of the project this month. Also participating are state telecom agencies in Brunei, the US, India, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
