Police reshuffle sees 97 moved

A major police reshuffle yesterday saw 97 major-generals shifted, including those commanding significant posts like the Crime Suppression Division and the commandos.
Maj-General Worrasak Nopsitthiphorn, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, will move to an inactive post attached to the National Police Office. Replacing him will be Maj-General Phongphat Chayaphan. Maj-General Wimol Pao-in, commander of the Special Operations Division, will head a division whose job is to protect women and children. Under the new organisational structure proposed by acting National Police commissioner-general Seripisut Temiyavej, all four of his deputies will have their own administrative office and staff, as do all 10 of his assistants. Seripisut said most of those receiving new positions in the provinces were suitable and expected to deal effectively with anticipated local political activities. Many of those in the strife-torn South who had served less than one year would stay in their positions. The rotations approved at yesterday's Police Commission meeting will take effect on May 1. Another major transfer for station superintendents or those holding lower positions will be worked out afterwards.
