Poll: support edges down

The Surayud government's job-approval rating after six months in office has dropped in comparison with its first three months.
According to data from a Bangkok poll conducted by the Bangkok University research institute, the Surayud Chulanont government's performance has dived three quarters of one point. In addition, it found 16.7 per cent of voters believed the country was worse off now than after three months of this administration. Almost 30 per cent saw no change and 32.6 per cent of respondents had no opinion. The government's job approval rating after six months is 4.53 out of a maximum of 10, down from 5.27 three months ago. About 36.4 per cent said the government performed below expectations while 5.7 per cent said it had performed better. Almost 30 per cent said the government performance measured up to their expectations while a similar number had no opinion at all. The top three Cabinet performers are Culture Minister Khunying Khaisri Sri-aroon who got a rating of 5.51 out of a possible 10, prime minister Surayud 5.37 and Tourism Minister Suvit Yodmani 5.08. The worst Cabinet performers are PM's Office Minister Prasith Kowilaikul with a 4.50 rating, fellow PM's Office Minister Thirapat Serirangsanat at 4.56 and Labour Minister Apai Chandanachulaka with 4.58. The poll questioned 1,171 respondents in Bangkok and its suburbs.
