Hi-Tech seal spot in King's Cup semis

Hi-Tech booked a semi-final berth from Group A with a slim 57-50 victory over Kasembundit in the women's preliminary rounds of the 47th King's Cup Basketball Championships at Siam University yesterday.
Only the top two teams from the two groups progress to the semi-final rounds. Sunisa Lakharn and Chonlada Iamsam-ang scored a number of lay-ups to pull Hi-Tech ahead 17-7 at the end of the first quarter. Although, Kasembundit reorganised to fight back, they could not stop the speedy Sunisa, who pierced the rival defence time and again to help the Hi-Tech side surge to 28-20 at half-time. The third quarter saw a bitter struggle and numerous fouls were committed as Kasembundit tried to hold back the rampaging Hi-Tech. As the clock ticked towards the finish, a frantic Kasembundit upped their offence but missed numerous shots from the arch, allowing Hi-Tech to pull through. Sunisa, with 16 points, was Hi-Tech's top scorer, while Amornrat Bunkerdkul had 13 points for Kasembundit. In a Group B match, former national players Piyachat Saengthong and Somthawin Jiamsawat powered Banpong past Diamond 72-58. Nartlada Romrongmuang and Somthawin sank 17 points each for Banpong, while Diamond's Sirirat Thanat-ro fired 11 points. Banpong have two wins against one loss, while Diamond have three wins from five matches.
