Buri Ram uproar over TAO

About 100 people in Buri Ram's Krasang district blocked members of the Muang Phai Tambon Administration Organisation from leaving on a tour of the South - because they allegedly ignored a tap-water crisis.

Locals refused to let 70 TAO officials led by Plien Nukijram leave for a field trip to Krabi, saying the officials' neglect had left 400 households in four villages without piped water for over a week.

Protester Prayoon Manyuen, 52, said: "They have made us buy water for consumption for longer than a week, but instead, they use the taxes we've paid to go travel."

He said the TAO should be investigated. The TAO always told people it had no budget to fix the water system, but somehow it could spend Bt200,000 for the trip to Krabi, Prayoon said.

Villagers had been forced to dish out Bt150 for water trucks every two days.

The TAO officials eventually sneaked out the back gate.
