In brief :TRT to shift this month

The Thai Rak Thai Party plans to move from its compound on Phetchaburi Road to a new headquarters on Rama III later this month.
Caretaker deputy leader Pongthep Thepkanchana said the party needed to cut costs and its current operating base was expensive and large. He said the IFCT building on Phetchaburi Road would be returned to Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra, wife of former Thai Rak Thai party leader Thaksin. Party executives expect to move this month. The party planned to move last year to its original home on Rajvithee Road but scrapped that idea. The Rajvithee building belongs to the Thaicom Foundation.
Rise for 'special assignments'? The Cabinet will today consider if military officials who have worked for the Council for National Security (CNS) should receive a pay hike for their "special assignments" since the September 19 coup. The CNS has asked the Cabinet to approve its proposal for a 15-per-cent pay rise for 423 military and security officials. The officials include eight CNS leaders who staged the coup. The CNS said they deserved the new pay rate as they had worked hard and had not had a break, even on public holidays.
