Surayud is top-rated in popularity

Almost two thirds of Bangkok residents still support Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, an opinion survey has found.
The Abac Poll Research Centre found 62 per cent of respondents continue to support Surayud as prime minister. But, many want him to change they way he works and tackle problems faster. The balance of respondents believed Surayud should go because he was too slow to deal with issues. The poll put Surayud on top of respondents' list of people sincere about tackling the country's problems. The centre said 51.7 per cent of respondents named Surayud first on their list followed by Council for National Security chairman General Sonthi Boonyaratglin, who scored 46 per cent. Asked what respondents would do if they were foreign investors, 54 per cent of respondents said they would withdraw their money from the country. The balance said they would continue to invest here. A group of 56.4 per cent favoured no political party if an election was called today, while the Thai Rak Thai was supported by 20.7 per cent of voters and 18.5 per cent would cast their ballots for the Democrats. The poll questioned 1,259 residents of Bangkok and its suburbs between March 27 and March 31. The centre announced the results yesterday.
