High-heeled abuse

A group of parents yesterday lodged a police complaint against a school director for striking their children's heads with her high-heeled shoes.

Ban Klong Mee School director Paveerat Wechsakun, 45, hit 11 primary students for making too much noise on Tuesday.

"I just meant to tease them, not to punish them," Paveerat told reporters. "I know it's not appropriate but now that I've done it, what should I do?"

Sakchai Bannasarn, who heads Educational Service Area 1 Office of Sa Kaew, said he had given Paveerat a "verbal rebuke" and a probe would be launched.

"She has had problems with local people since she was assigned to the school. She will likely face a transfer order and disciplinary action," he said.

Parents say Paveerat's violent acts came to light after a mother saw her son crying and noticed swelling on his head. When she found out what happened, she went to check with neighbours. They complained directly to Paveerat on Wednesday.

"She wai-ed us and said she was sorry and then asked us to demand compensation," a parent said.

The parents also felt Paveerat showed no sign of remorse.
