Economic zones extended to 36 provinces
The Agricultural Land Reform Office has expanded its sustainable economic zones to another 36 provinces and 298,000 rai as part of the government's plan to create incomes for poor farmers. The special zones are targeted to serve 17,940 farmers and create knowledge network centres in 1,200 districts. The expansion will focus on Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Pathom, Chachoensao, Yala, Narathiwat, Surat Thani, Phatthalung, Suphan Buri, Sa Kaew, Saraburi, Petchburi, Rayong, Chai Nat, Chanthaburi, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Nong Khai, Surin, Loei, Yasotorn, Maha Sarakam, Mukdahan, Buri Ram, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen and Lamphun. Cassava Unusual March rain will help harvest Agro-Economic Zone Office 5 reported that helpful rain this month had prompted farmers in Nakhon Ratchasima to harvest cassava roots. The price-pledging programme for cassava is in three periods: November-December 2006 at a price of Bt1.25 and Bt1.30 per kilogram; January to February 2007 at Bt1.35 and Bt1.40; and March to April at Bt1.45 and 1.50. Department of Intellectual Property Distance learning programme launched The Department of Intellectual Property has launched its first-ever distance learning programme to provide basic knowledge about intellectual property rights. The programme is called DL-101thai and can be applied to develop grassroots economic measures to achieve sustainable development. -
