Makro Office Centre hopes to open two office-supply superstores at a cost of Bt20 million each in Bangkok and another major city this year while working on renovating its existing 20 branches.
Managing director Supornsri Naktanasu-kanjn said yesterday that the Silom Road branch was the first to get the brighter and more modern look, with up to six more expected to follow this year at Bt10 million per outlet. The renovated shops feature three colour-coded zones for office supplies and stationery, information technology and office furniture. The company's marketing strategy will emphasise customer service, including free delivery and advice on buying products. It wants to meet demand rather than offer cheap products, as this would help cut operating costs in the long run, Supornsri said. Creating strong loyalty is another focus. The firm will hold in-store activities every month, such as rewarding bonus points. Every Bt200 purchase will earn one point and customers collecting 500 points can join a rally to Pattaya in November. The chain's membership numbers 250,000 customers, of which 70 per cent are active. The company targets a sales increase of 15 per cent over last year's Bt1.5 billion, which would give it 38 per cent of the Bt5-billion office-supply business for superstores and major traditional shops.
