Car-care operator rebrands, expands

Carlac (Thai-German), operator of one-stop car-care services under the "Car-Lack 68" brand, has upgraded its franchise business with a new name - "Moly Care by Car-Lack 68" - in a bid to expand its customer base into the international market.
Managing director Kris Kanchanabat yesterday said the rebranding was aimed at presenting a new image for its franchise system, one that met international standards. "The company wants to focus more on expanding to foreign markets," he said, adding that it expected to open franchises in Dubai, Malaysia and Vietnam. However, he said the company needed to develop its operational standards in Thailand before expanding into other countries. Recently, Carlac (Thai-German) signed a contract with US-based franchise-business consultant Fran Corp to improve its franchise-business system. Kris said the new system was categorised into three main groups: franchise, dealer and supporter. The first group will provide all car-care services and company promotions; the second group will offer some products and services; and the third will display products under the banner of the company's brand name. Kris said Carlac (Thai-German) would define zoning for Moly Care by Car-Lack 68 branches. Only one franchise branch will be allowed in each province, except for large provinces. Dealers will be required to keep a distance between each shop. Currently, the company has a total of 50 branches, which is expected to increase to 70 branches at a cost of Bt1.8 million to Bt2 million per branch.
