Late news :Egat to issue Bt14 bn in bonds later this year

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) will issue bonds worth Bt14.5 billion in the second half of the year, expecting its financial burden to fall in line with lower interest rates.

In January, the agency issued Bt1 billion worth of eight-year bonds, with an annual interest rate of 5.35 per cent. Egat expects the coupon rates of the new bonds not to exceed 6 per cent.

Egat will consider the size of the bonds in 2008, when it needs to repay a Bt20-billion loan to the World Bank and to invest in four power plants and a transmission power line. As of the end of last year, its liabilities totalled Bt163 billion against Bt360 billion worth of total assets.

Siam Kirin launches grainy green tea

Siam Kirin Beverage, a subsidiary of Japan's Kirin Beverage, has launched Namacha Minocha, a green tea with grain flavour, to welcome the arrival of the hot season.

The new product includes corn, barley and brown rice and sales for Bt20 a bottle.

Siam Kirin Beverage president Hiroaki Noh said the company had also introduced a new Panda girl called Minocha Chan, who will feature in media and public relations activities to build awareness.

The company introduced its first mascot, Namacha Panda, last month in support of its marketing strategy. The mascot is already popular in Japan.

Noh said Namacha Panda had been well received by Thai consumers at several marketing activities already and that there had been good sales of such items as Namacha Panda mobile-phone straps and Namacha Panda glasses.

Siam Kirin was established last year as a joint venture involving local company Osotspa and Kirin Beverage Corporation.
