Apichat saves the day for Air Force

Apichat Orn-in hit a three-pointer in the last 25 seconds of the game to help Royal Thai Air Force edge out Sunspark 69-66 in the men's preliminary rounds of the King's Cup Basketball Championships at Siam University gymnasium yesterday.

Both teams, who are in Group A, traded points through the first session before the Royal Thai Air Force side shifted gear to take a 51-44 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Sunspark side began marking their men and pulled off a series of three-pointers to level the scores at 53-53.

With 45 seconds remaining, Sunspark's Budta Jai-ngarmsakul sank a three-pointer to help his team draw level again, at 66-all.

However, Apichat answered with a stunning three-pointer that helped Royal Thai Air Force notch their first victory.

In other games, Diamond defeated Dhurakij Pundit 46-45 in a Group B match in the women's division. National team player Atitaya Likhitsaran sparked the Diamond side to a big 23-9 lead at halftime.

Dhurakij Pundit, with many youngsters in their ranks, found out their rhythm and cut the gap to 30-35. However, it was too late to haul back the in-form Diamond, and the newcomers lost by the slimmest of margins.
