13,000 sit entrance exam at Impact

Triam Udom Suksa School yesterday held its entrance examination at the Impact Muang Thong Thani Convention Centre to accommodate the large number of applicants.
Occupying two halls with a combined area of 30,000 square metres, it was the biggest test centre for the Grade 10 entrance exam. "Because we have more than 13,000 applicants, we decided to hold our entrance exam at the Muang Thong Thani centre for the first time - otherwise we would have had to arrange for up to 10 test centres," said school director Pisawas Yutithamdamrong. She said the exam went smoothly, with only a few absentees, late arrivals and cases of fainting. Triam Udom Suksa School has only 1,110 seats available. Education Minister Wijit Srisa-arn said 39 senior secondary schools in Bangkok held their entrance exams simultaneously yesterday, with the results to be announced on Wednesday. "Those who fail the entrance exams can go back to their old schools," Wijit said. There were 17,698 students applying for seats at these Bangkok schools, but there are only 3,486 seats available.
