Man sought over murders

A taxi driver, who also chairs a cooperative for an Ua Athorn housing project, yesterday emerged as a prime suspect in the murders of three people including his own son.
The two other victims were a mother and a daughter, who was found dead without any clothes on. Laboratory tests were ongoing to determine whether the 13-year-old girl, Kanokwan Jan-ob, was raped. Her mother, Kanjana Jan-ob, 40, had tried to break up with the 46-year-old suspect, Jatuporn Muangsuwan. Both families had lived in the Ua Athorn housing project on Ratchaphruek Road in Muang district. According to police, Kanjana and Jatuporn were divorcees when they met and started their relationship. However, the woman later tried to end the relationship after finding that Jatuporn was hot-tempered and often used violence. Kanjana also had many suitors. Police said Kanjana recently told Jatuporn about her intention to sever her relationship with him and the suspect threatened to kill her and her daughter. Neighbours said they heard Kanjana's cries for help on Thursday but they did not suspect anything serious would happen, given the fact that such incidents often took place. On Friday, Jatuporn was last seen taking his 15-year-old son, Kotchakorn Muangsuwan, back from camping activities. Kotchakorn was found dead in his father's room yesterday. Police are now hunting for Jatuporn.
