Hi Tech are confident of title again

[BASKETBALL] Hot favourites Hi-Tech are confident of retaining the men's title for the third successive year in the King's Cup Basketball Championships, which will get underway this weekend at Siam University's Gymnasium.
In the final last year, the champion side stunned Tiew Pai Ngarm with a three-pointer from Surachet Pongsiri, the team's shortest player at only 165cms, at the death while they were trailing 56-57. The two teams have been placed in different groups this year and there is a possibility the country's two leading teams will meet again in the final with the prestigious trophy of His Majesty the King at stake. "We are faced with a similar situation like last year. Many of our key players are injured," said Hi-Tech manager Nipon Chawalitmontian. "However, we have made some adequate replacements, who have gelled quite well with their team-mates. This gives us plenty of confidence and hopes of retaining the crown," he added. Asked about the opening match against Bangkok Bank on Sunday, Nipon fancied his side's chances of winning at 70 per cent. In another match, Tiew Pai Ngarm will face Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). Meanwhile in the women's opener, 14-time champions Bangkok Bank A will take on Hi-Tech. Bangkok Bank A's hopes of retaining the crown are bright as there are not many strong opponents in Group A, which comprises Hi-Tech, Chiang Mai, Rak Nam Jai, RBAC and Kasembundit. Group B consists of Rattana Bundit, Bangkok Bank B, Diamond, Dhurakit Bundit, Chiang Mai and Ban Pong.
