Tamarine beaten in Miami qualifier

[TENNIS] Second seed Tamarine Tanasugarn lost in the final qualifying round of the Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida, as she fell to Czech Iveta Benesova 6-3 4-6 6-4 on Tuesday.

Struggling to keep her first serves in, Tamarine conceded a service break to the 96th-ranked player in the seventh game of the final set, which cost her the match.

The 68th-ranked Thai, however, still has a chance to make it to the main draw as

a "lucky loser" in case a player withdraws at the last moment.

Thailand have two challengers left in the year's second Master Series tournament. Paradorn Srichaphan was set to play Peru's Luis Horna in the first round later yesterday while Danai Udomchoke will take

on German Simon Gruel tonight.

In Kalgoorlie, Australia, Napaporn Tongsalee and Suchanan Viratprasert all made first-round exits in the US$25,000 Gold Fields St Ives International tournament on Tuesday.

Napaporn was eliminated by third-seeded Japanese Junri Namigata 6-0 6-3 and Suchanan was sent packing by Lee Ye-ra 6-1 6-1.
