Acting TRT leader to testify with EC next week

The Election Commission has scheduled a March 30 session to hear the testimony of Thai Rak Thai Party acting leader Chaturon Chaisang, who has denied his alleged act of defiance over the ban on party gatherings.
"Chaturon will give his side of the story to help the EC gather factual information before deciding whether to file any charges," EC chairman Apichart Sukhagganond said Thursday. Apichart said the EC was investigating Chaturon's recent trip to meet his constituents in the Northeast in spite of the junta's ban on political gatherings. The EC had not drawn a conclusion on the issue, he said, explaining that if Chaturon was found to have violated the ban, the EC would have to decide whether it had a mandate to rule on the matter or to forward the case for review by the Constitution Tribunal.
