Pojaman's funds released

The wife of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been granted permission to take Bt400 million out of the country to buy property in London.

Bank of Thailand Governor Tarisa Watanagase was quoted by Reuters as saying that Pojaman Shinawatra's request was approved in principle last week. "When she is taking money out of the Kingdom, she has to submit to us the purchase document."

Pojaman submitted her request last month and the central bank had asked for opinions from the Assets Examination Committee and the National Counter Corruption Commission, which are handling several cases concerning the Shinawatra family's assets.
