Highlights of the week

Sonthi spells it out
Council for National Security (CNS) chairman Sonthi Boonyaratglin tomorrow announces the achievements of his military-installed government in the six months since the September coup. The Cabinet, the Assets Examination Committee (AEC), the National Counter Corruption Commission, the police and the Attorney-General will join him in the statement. They will report on progress of investigations into alleged irregularities in the ousted Thaksin Shinawatra government cited as reasons for the coup. These were alleged lese majeste, corruption, interference in independent agencies and social unrest.
Charter outline Constitution drafting continues in the spotlight and tomorrow a preliminary draft of a broad outline is due. All eyes will be on the content and its presentation.
Referendum plan The Election Commission will this week propose to the Cabinet draft laws for the holding of a referendum on the new constitution.
Call for inquiry AEC secretary and head of its fact-finding panel into alleged irregularities with the Airport Rail Link, Kaewsan Atibodhi, today reports to the committee proper. He will recommend an investigation be launched and those implicated be notified.
Labour disputes The Office of the Judiciary will tomorrow ask the Cabinet to approve a special bill allowing the Labour Court to rule on disputes involving labour unions and the nature of work.
