NSC to probe al-Qaeda plot claims

Thailand will investigate claims by suspected September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed that he plotted attacks on an El Al plane and nightclubs in Thailand.

Prakit Prachonpatjanuk, secretary-general of the National Security Council, said yesterday: "We have to double-check the claims."

The alleged plots figured among 31 acts of actual or alleged al-Qaeda strikes that Mohammed confessed to planning during a military hearing at Guantanamo Bay.

Mohammed claims he planned attacks on nightclubs in Thailand frequented by American and British citizens and a plot to destroy an El Al airliner in Bangkok.
