Thais suffer early defeat

[BADMINTON] Thai Kunchala Voravichitchaikul and Songphon Anukrittayawan ended their hopes in the second round of the Swiss Open Badminton Super Series in Basel yesterday after falling to Singaporean rivals.

The Thai pair were beaten by Jiang Yanmei and Wijaya Hendra 21-17 21-16.

In the women's singles, Soratja Chansrisukot, who beat Canadian Anna Rice 21-17 21-17 in the first round, was due to play Chinese world No 6 Lu Lan in the second round.

Thai singles players also crashed out of the tournament in the first round on Wednesday.

Monthila Meemek fell to Swiss Jeanine Cicognini 21-18 21-16, while Salakjit Ponsana was edged 21-18 21-19 by Hwang Hye-youn of South Korean in the women's singles.
