Party files complaints over Saprang's jaunt to Europe

The Thai Rak Thai Party filed a complaint to the Auditor General yesterday over the alleged improper use of public funds for an overseas trip by Council for National Security assistant secretary-general General Saprang Kalayanamitr.
TRT deputy spokesman Suthin Klangsaeng said there was a lack of transparency as to how the money was spent by Saprang, who also chairs the Airport of Thailand board. Suthin said that while the trip to study airport security in Europe cost only Bt7 million, Saprang refused to explain to the public how the money was spent. "It is not right to have such excursions when the country is in economic hardship. Other state agencies have postponed such trips,'' he said. Suthin submitted the complaint to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont also, and said he would lodge it with the Counter Corruption Commission and Assets Examination Committee. CNS spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd defended Saprang, saying the general was a man of integrity.
