Tough draw for Thais

[BADMINTON] Thai players' hopes of making a mark in the US$200,000 Swiss Open Badminton Super Series in Basel this week is hampered by a tough draw.
Thai world No 10 Boonsak Ponsana has been drawn to face world championships runner-up Bao Chunlai of China in the men's singles first round tomorrow. They have met each other once and the Thai fell to the world No 6 in round two of the Japan Open two years ago. The Thai mixed doubles duo of Songphon Anukrittayawan and Kunchala Vorawichitchaikul take on New Zealand's Shirley Daniel A and Malaysian Quay Joanne Swee Ling in first-round action. Other Thai players, who had to play in the qualifying rounds late yesterday, were Poompat Sapkulchananart, who was meeting Pei Wee-chung in the men's singles, Soratja Chansrisukot took on Bulgarian Dimova Diana, while Boonsak's younger sister Salakjit played Sladekova Eva of the Slovak Republic in the women's singles. Nattaphon Narkthong and Phattapol Ngernsrisuk face Taiwanese Chen Yu-hsun and Lin Yu-lang, while Thai Sudket Prapakamol and Songphon play th e Swiss pair of Andrey Michael and Boesiger Christian in men's doubles matches today.
