Junior rugby starting at Patana

The DHL Bangkok Lions Rugby Football Club has attracted over 200 boys and girls aged from five to 16 years to their growing ranks.
Registration days for the coming season will be held at international schools in Bangkok over the next three Saturdays. This year the season starts after the Songkran break - on April 28 at 9am at Bangkok Patana School. Saturday morning training sessions will held by coaches accredited by the Australian Rugby Union and matches will be played according to International Rugby Board standards. Young rugby players have had a treat in recent years with some legendary guest coaches such as Wallabies David Campese, John Eales, All Blacks John Mitchell, Richard Loe and Lions Brian Moore and Martin Bayfield. And organisers hope to tee up more of the same. The Lions will hold registration days at the Patana School fields on March 17, 24 and 31 from 9am and midday, at Shrewsbury International School on March 20 from 2pm to 4:30pm, at NIST on March 22 from 2pm to 4.30pm and at ISB on March 28 from 10am to noon. Interested parents should email info@bkklionsrugby.org Meanwhile, French coach Bernard Laporte gave an ominous warning to the rest of the Six Nations teams when he said, looking ahead to the World Cup, that New Zealand were a class apart. Laporte gave a friendly reminder that whatever France do in this competition, it does not make them favourites to lift the World Cup on home soil in the October 20 final. "If you look at the Six Nations tournament and then the All Blacks there is clearly a difference," he said.
