Hotels: Accolades for Thai managers of Marriott Resorts & Spas

At the annual Marriott International General Manager's Conference held in San Francisco recently, the general managers of Marriott Resorts & Spas Thailand were the proud recipients of a number of accolades.

Heading the list was Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa, named as "Hotel of the Year" for the second year in the International category.

The award recognises a hotel that has demonstrated all-round excellence. This category includes guest satisfaction, financial excellence, associate satisfaction and most improved market share.

Farming :Thai-Lao cooperation agreed

Thailand and Laos recently reached an agreement to extend agricultural cooperation to vegetable-seed production, plant and animal breeding, particularly livestock, and soil utilisation.

Agriculture Minister Thira Sutabutra said the two countries had agreed to accelerate cooperation and investment in the farming sector. They also drew up the framework for a cooperation plan for agriculture, which is set to be completed by this year. The plan will be the foundation for future development.

Vehicles :Tata unveils redesigned pickup

India's largest auto-maker, Tata Motors, is displaying a redesigned pickup fitted with a 2.2-litre 140PS common-rail direct injection, Euro IV-compliant diesel engine at the Geneva Auto Show this week.

While continuing to be made in India, the Tata pickup will also be assembled in Thailand and will be marketed in Tata Motors' existing European, Asean and African markets. Tata and the Fiat Group are also actively exploring the manufacture and marketing of the vehicle in Latin America. The changes include new styling and comfort features as well as ABS and airbags, making the vehicle suitable for business as well as leisure use.

Aviation :More comfort at Krabi airport

Thai Airways International recently opened its Royal Silk Lounge at Krabi airport.

THAI president Apinan Sumanaseni said the airline always stressed passenger convenience and comfort. With the introduction of the new lounge, passengers can enjoy the facilities available in the lounge, where they can relax or work. The lounge can accommodate 70 passengers at a time. Its two rooms are equipped with an automatic massage sofa, two wide-screen LCD televisions, seven stereos and sound equipment and a carry-on baggage-holding area.
