Tax revenues flat in February

Government revenues were flat last month, as consumer spending and corporate earnings further slowed down.
Revenues totalled Bt103.12 billion, 0.1 per cent higher than targeted and up 2.8 per cent up year on year, Finance Ministry spokesman Somchai Sujjapongse said yesterday. As the economy slowed, Revenue Department tax collections missed their target by 0.7 per cent. However, taxes collected by the Customs and Excise departments exceeded their targets, said Somchai. Corporate income tax collected last month totalled Bt13.15 billion, down 13.8 per cent year on year and 6.5 per cent lower than targeted. Revenues from value-added tax amounted to Bt35.54 billion, up 4.6 per cent year on year but down 3.4 per cent from what was projected. Total tax revenues in the first five months of fiscal 2007 - October to February - rose to Bt506.68 billion, up 9.2 per cent up year on year and 0.6 per cent higher than targeted, said Somchai. The Revenue Department collected Bt356.09 billion in taxes, up 6.3 per cent from the same period in the previous fiscal year and 0.1 per cent higher than targeted. The Excise Department's tax collection totalled Bt123.48 billion, up 14.3 per cent year on year and 7.3 per cent above target. The Customs Department collected Bt37.15 billion, up 11.4 per cent year on year and 0.9 per cent higher than projected. Wichit Chaitrong The Nation
