More moves

A large number of military officers, who were marginalised during the reign of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra, will be promoted to run combat units and hold significant posts in a special reshuffle order to be approved next week.
Those who were classmates of Thaksin Shinawatra during their military academy years - members of Class 10 of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School (AFAPS) - are earmarked for "inactive posts" in the reshuffle order.Meanwhile, the Police Commission will today consider and approve a proposal by acting police chief Seripisut Temiyavej to create eight inspector-generals from the current one. There will be no promotions or transfers of any officers on the agenda in today's meeting. Pol General Seripisut said he had a list of more than 6,000 inactive posts to accommodate officers with performance problems and those found to have been "in a neutral gear" in the coming first annual reshuffle due in April. Army commander General Sonthi Boonyaratglin said the new commander of the Second Army Area, the position previously held by Lt-General Sujate Wattanasuk, where political school torchings have been rampant and continue, needs to be very reliable and highly competent. The list nominates Lt-General Wiboolsak Neephal, a Class 9 graduate and currently commander of the Second Army Corps.
