iTV staffs petition to Central Administrative Court

ITV staffs Tuesday petitioned to the Central Administrative Court seeking an injunction against the Cabinet resolution to take the channel off air immediately after midnight.

The petition said there were no sound reasons to close the channel temporarily because this could affect people's interests.

The injunction should remain in place until conclusions on the issue are reached.

ITV has failed to pay Bt100billion worth of concession fees, fines and interests.

Earlier Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont apologised Tuesday to iTV staffs, saying that the station's operation has to be suspended on Tuesday night pending the Council of State's decision.

Surayud said earlier that iTV station could be operated and iTV staffs would be able to continue working after the concession is revoked on Tuesday.

"I am sorry for saying that the station would be able to broadcast after March 6 that the concession is terminated. The station's operation has to be suspended pending decision of the Council of State," he said.

The Council of State will consider whether the PM's Office, as a government authority, can take over iTV from a private company.
