Star Alliance offers free golf games and lessons to flyers on China routes

The Star Alliance, is offering a free round of golf or golf lessons to customers taking an international round-trip flight on any of its member carriers from China from March 1 to May 31.

The international ticket must be valued at 4,000 yuan (Bt18,200) or more, including taxes.

Star Alliance China Steering Council chairman Gregor Wende said the promotion was launched because research showed that golf was one of the favourite sports of the main target group: the frequent international traveller.

"By offering customers a round of golf at some of the most sought-after golf courses in China or overseas, we are rewarding loyalty with a unique experience," he said.

In order to participate in the promotion, customers need to register online at www.staralliance.com/golf prior to travelling, providing both their frequent-flyer

member details and a valid e-mail address.

This will serve as the central point of the campaign, enabling users to ascertain information about the promotion, register and choose their preferred dates and golf-course location.

The website contains information on all available courses around the world and links to all the Star Alliance member airlines' ticket booking and frequent-flyer programmes.

Three days after completion of travel, customers will be sent a voucher for either a free round of golf or a golf lesson, which can be redeemed online until November 30.

To support the promotion, a golf simulator will be installed at two locations inside Shanghai's Pudong Airport.

This will build awareness and give customers a chance to practise their golf swing.

This promotion is being supported through the programs of the three Star Alliance member carriers that fly to China, as well as by online advertising on leading company and golf websites.

Chinese golf courses that are participating in the campaign include Beijing CBD International Golf Club, Nanhu Golf Club, Guangzhou, various Orient Country Clubs, Mission Hills, Shenzhen and Guangzhou Dragon Lake Golf Club. Other golf clubs in England, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Portugal, Scotland, South Africa, Spain and Thailand are also eligible.

Star Alliance carriers operate 960 international flights in and out of China each week.

When Air China and Shanghai airlines join later this year, that will make 998 weekly international flights and 5,949 weekly domestic flights by the Star Alliance network.
