FISU quite impressed

[WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES] The International University Sports Federation (FISU) committee, which inspected the Thammasart University's Rangsit Campus, expressed satisfaction over the Univerisiade preparation yesterday.

Thailand are to host the Summer Universiade from August 8 and 18 with over 100 countries confirming their participation.

On Monday, a FISU delegation, led by Director-General Eric Saintrond inspected athletes' dormitory, International Broadcasting Centre (IBC), Information Technology Centre (ITC), sport complex and Main Press Centre (MPC).

The FISU officials were pleased with the arrangements, particularly at the sport complex, which is equipped with full facilities.

However, Saintrond told the organisers to find accommodate for at least 10,000 athletes, who will be participating in the event.

Meanwhile, Sumet Yamnoon, director of Thailand's organising bureau of the World University Games, said the progress of work has been 80 per cent.

The organisers had set aside a budget of Bt11million to renovate Supachalasai and Rajamangala National Stadiums, the venues for the Asian Cup in July and the Universiade in August.

According to Sumet, Sripathum University, which is handling the public relations part of the Games, will install billboards in important places from this month.
