McDonald's tries out a trendy new look

McDonald's yesterday emerged from its time-honoured mould to introduce a new restaurant concept it hopes will provide a popular meeting place for teenagers and young adults, to accommodate changing trends.
McDonald's Esplanade opened yesterday on Ratchadaphisek Road in Huai Khwang district."With the changing lifestyle of today's consumers and with our constant concerns for consumers' needs, McDonald's is revamping its restaurants," said Hester Chew, chief of McThai's executive committee. "The Esplanade shop is our first new-look restaurant, and it has a lot more to offer our customers." McDonald's Esplanade is decorated in accordance with a concept that focuses on consumers' lifestyle trends. In terms of decor and furnishings, it is all new. It also offers services for trendy people looking for entertainment, with multimedia services like a music station and movie-ticket reservation facilities. "McDonald's Esplanade will be a model for our new restaurants soon to be opened and the renovation of existing restaurants," Chew said. "At the same time, we will reflect the new lifestyle concept in our advertising, public relations and other activities, to strengthen our long-term brand recognition." The company's drive to modernise its brand image is also reflected in its menu. McDonald's began offering its new McNuggets Seaweed Shake Shake yesterday. It is made from chicken meat mixed with McDonald's special ingredients, crispy coated and shaken together with a seaweed seasoning.
