In brief:BankThai signs $40m notes deal

Phirasilp Subhapholsiri, president of BankThai, yesterday signed an agreement for distribution of the bank's 10-year subordinated floating-rate notes worth US$40 million (Bt1.42 billion) with Morgan Stanley & Co International.

The capital raised from the issuance will be used for asset expansion.

Ad fees unchanged

Bangkok Broadcasting and Television, which operates Channel 7, yesterday said it had no immediate plan to raise the fees for its advertising time slots as it is being pressured by a sharp slowdown in ad spending.

Managing director Surang Prempree said total spending on media advertising had recorded year-on-year growth of only 1.67 per cent in January, according to ACNielsen's media survey. Spending on television advertising witnessed negative growth.

The New Year Eve's blasts in Bangkok affected consumer sentiment and many product owners have since postponed their advertising spending, hoping for an improved economic and political environment, he said. Surang expects the situation to improve in the next quarter.
