Chanvit job in doubt in V'nam

[SOCCER] The former national team coach Chanvit Pholchivin's future is hanging by a thread after Vietnam's V-League outfit Dong Thap reputedly retracted their offer of a lucrative contract.
Chanvit, who led Thailand to the runners-up spot in the recent Asean Football Championship, made a shock move last week when he resigned from the national team post to take over the V-League newcomers after month-long rumours about his future. The experienced trainer, who was in Vietnam during the weekend, revealed his negotiations with Dong Thap hit a major roadblock when the Vietnamese side said they would not give the promised salary. "They requested more time before making a decision. I decided to return home in order to clear some pending work. I'm waiting for their answer because I haven't quit my job as a bureaucrat," said Chanvit, who was succeeded by Thongsuk Sampahangsith. "I gave them a deadline of March 1. If they don't agree with what I had asked for, then I will not be going there. I will stay put here and continue with my job at the Tourism and Sports Ministry," Chanvit said. Asked whether he would consider a return to the national team if the move to Dong Thap fails, Chanvit said: "The Football Association of Thailand [FAT] has already appointed a guy. He was one of my staff coaches. If I don't go to Vietnam, it's up to the FAT to make a decision. I've said that I'm always ready to work for the country."
