Scorsese wins long-awaited directing Oscar for 'The Departed'

Hollywood - Veteran American filmmaker Martin Scorsese landed his long-awaited first best director Oscar here Sunday, striking gold with crime drama "The Departed" after being snubbed on five previous occasions.
Scorsese, 64, is among the most influential directors in Hollywood -- and until now, the most important never to have won an Oscar.
"I'm so moved, I'm so moved," he said as he clutched his long-sought Oscar.
"So many people over the years have been wishing this for me -- strangers. I walk in the street and people say something to me: 'You should win, you should win.'
"I go in for X-rays, 'you should win one.' Friends of mine over the years, friends that are here, my family, I thank you."
Scorsese beat out Clint Eastwood ("Letters from Iwo Jima"), Stephen Frears ("The Queen"), Paul Greengrass ("United 93") and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu ("Babel") to take home the coveted director's prize on Sunday.
