AEC's term should not be extended: Klanarong

Klanarong Chanthik Monday expressed his opposition to the extension of the term of the Assets Examination Committee, saying it could complete most of its tasks within the one-year term.
Giving an interview to Nation Group editor Thepchai Yong during the Siam This Morning programme on Channel 5, Klanarong, an AEC member and a member of the National Counter Corruption Commission, said none of AEC members had discussed the term extension. He said the AEC is a special body which uses power from several permanent bodies so its term extension could affect the works of the existing bodies and the system. "I believe the AEC could finish its works within the timeframe. After that, it will be fine for the AEC to disband because we have finished our works and we will by that time have passed on the works to the Office of the Attorney General," Klanarong said. "If the AEC remains for too long, it will affect existing agencies. If we become part of the system, we can harm the NCCC [National Counter Corruption Commission], the AMLO (Anti-Money Laundering Office], the authority of the revenue director-general. "I think the AEC's term should not be extended," Klanarong said. The Nation
