DTAC eyes YouTube

Total Access Communication (DTAC) is turning to YouTube to reach tech-savvy teens.

The country's No 2 mobile phone service will upload its new television commercial for its prepaid service on to the popular video-sharing website before the end of this month.

DTAC chief commercial officer Thana Tienachariya said the commercial would debut on YouTube two weeks before its launch on Thai TV. DTAC will be more aggressive in tapping the teen market this year after focusing mainly on the mass market in the past, Thana added. It aims to add 3 million subscribers this year, lifting its total to about 15 million. It will spend about Bt12 billion on network expansion, mainly in the North and South.

DTAC and the country's largest cellular operator, Advanced Info Service, have each applied for an additional 3 million mobile phone numbers from the National Telecommunications Commission.

Commission secretary-general Suranan Wongvithayakamjorn said the licensing body was considering the applications.
