Sakda, 69, passes away

Privy Councillor Sakda Mokkamakkul died of pneumonia and heart failure at Chaophya Hospital yesterday morning. He was 69.

He is survived by his wife Samruay. The couple have two children.

Born on December 8, 1937, Sakda graduated from Thammasat University's Faculty of Law. He also held honorary doctorates in law from Siam University (1996) and Ramkhamhaeng University (1997).

He had served in many important positions, such as deputy permanent secretary for Justice and  president of the Supreme Court.

He was appointed a privy councillor on January 20, 1999. He also served on the committee of the Anandamahidol Foundation.

The royally sponsored bathing rite for Sakda took place at the Benjamabophit Dusitwanaram Temple at 5.30pm yesterday. The praying ceremony will continue for seven days.
