The Raimon Land Bangkok International Rugby Tens enhanced its growing reputation as the premier event in the region with some exciting rugby yesterday when high-profile teams paraded into the quarter-finals of the Cup divisions.
Despite the scorching conditions at Bangkok Pattana School, more than 1,000 fans, both Thai and foreigners, turned up at the venue and were served up with breathtaking rugby action, which thrilled the crowd in the Pool rounds. Singapore Barbarians, one of the favourites in the event, sailed into the quarter-final of the Cup division. The tournament also hosted the DHL 3rd Bangkok Lions Mini Rugby Festival, with junior teams from around the region playing over a variety of age groups. The Bangkok Lions Under-16 team clinched the Cup title , winning three successive games. They also won two other divisions. Over 300 Thai juniors from provinces all around the Kingdom displayed their enthusiasm to match the visiting international teams. Woman's Rugby demonstrated its popularity as three Thai teams tackled the imposing tourists from the University of Calgary. Today's finals promise another full day of fast-paced rugby as teams are vying for their respective titles in the knock-out stage of the event. The tournament kicks off at 9.00am with the finals starting from 1.00pm. Admission is free.
