Late news :Gas emissions to be reduced

PTT Group has pledged to reduce nitrogen-oxide emissions from its five gas-separation plants in Map Ta Phut to less than 70 grams per second, down from the current limit of 76gps

The new standard will also apply when its sixth plant goes online.

The plan will be submitted to a committee chaired by Energy permanent secretary Pornchai Rujiprapha, which will recommend controls on pollution in the Map Ta Phut area of Rayong, said Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith, senior executive vice president of PTT.

The plan addresses PTT Group hopes to expand in the area, he said, adding that PTT refineries and petrochemical plants were working on their own pollution-control plans, to be completed by the end of this month.

New investment projects of the group include an LNG factory, a power plant and an extension to PTT Chemical's facilities.

ATS 'is ready'

The Stock Exchange of Thailand said yesterday that its automated transfer system (ATS) would be available for all retail investors on April 1. Investors using cash accounts can pay for securities or receive cash from sales through their bank accounts, making clearing and settlement far more efficient.

As well as helping retail investors, ATS will eliminate the costs involved in cheque issuance and commuting to banks. Applying for ATS will incur no additional cost to investors, as transfer expenses will be absorbed by securities firms. ATS will improve the reliability of the industry overall by reducing potential default risk, and it will eliminate unnecessary procedures and costs for brokers, SET president Patareeya Benjapolchai said.

Investors can rest assured that the system is secure, as every transaction will require their confirmation before activation and can be monitored by them when they update their bankbooks, she said.

Suvarnabhumi now accommodates 822 flights daily.

Serirat Prasutanond, the new airport manager, said yesterday that during the Lunar New Year flights should increase to at least 274: 219 international and 55 domestic.

Of the international flights, 109 will be outbound against 110 inbound. Of the domestic flights, 27 will be inbound and 28 outbound.
